Case Study - ViaLink

ViaLink is a non-profit organization in Louisiana that provides state-wide 211 call line and answering service that that supports the community in several ways, such as:

  • - Emergency crisis support, such as suicide intervention
  • - Counseling for those in crisis
  • - Connecting people to resources and services

As part of community outreach, ViaLink provides the public with the data and trend information based on its data from the call centers. After Hurricane Ida in 2021, the organization faced lots of challenges in providing support to the communities of Louisiana. At the same time, it collected vast amounts of data that needed to be organized, analyzed, and presented to the public.

We set up a virtual server that extracted the data from several sources, such as ViaLink call data, FEMA data, and the U.S. Census data. The Python scripts performed a series of data transformations and loaded the data to the MySQL database that we set up. Dashboards were designed in Tableau and PowerBI and used the data from the database to present various metrics and statistics in an engaging and interactive way to the users. We also built additional web-based portal for the sister organizations to upload their data to the database to use in the dashboards.

As a result of this work, ViaLink has been awarded the AIRS (Alliance of Information and Referral Systems) Innovation Award.
