Dickinson Center for the Futures of Native Peoples is a brand-new center of Native American arts and cultures, but it is unlike any other center. Its focus is the future, not the past. It is a place that builds new perspectives, generates new ideas, and creates new opportunities. A series of interviews and brainstorming led to further research of modern art brands. Our research included museums and modern art centers in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Our goal was to understand how other centers combine the themes of the past, traditions, and the future. The result was a minimalist logo, placing the four letters at the four corners of a square and creating a theme of different peoples coming together. A turned letter C subtly creates a hint of a counter form square in the middle – symbolizing a common interest that brings everyone together and a path toward the future.
